The Red Sox have never been afraid to test the international waters, and they've reportedly done so once again.

According to WEEI.com's Alex Speier, a major league source has confirmed multiple reports out of Japan that the Red Sox were among the big league teams to meet with Japanese pitcher Shohei Otani.

Otani is just 18 years old, but he's 6-foot-4 and has reportedly been clocked at 100 mph. The right-hander will no doubt generate plenty of interest both in Japan and in the U.S., despite the mixed results that MLB fans have seen from hurlers coming over from Japan in the past.

That interest appears to have already generated, in fact, as the Dodgers and Rangers have also reportedly met with Otani, as have all 12 teams in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.

The Red Sox were reportedly represented by international scouting director Eddie Romero and Pacific Rim coordinator Jon Deeble when meeting Otani.
