Romeo Crennel Isn't Sure Why Jamaal Charles Only Got Five Carries in Loss to RaidersRomeo Crennel is a defensive-minded football coach, so he may not be well-versed in what most would call “offense.” However, he is the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, which means that he has the final say over everything regarding his football team.

This seems simple, at least in theory, which is why Crennel’s response to the use of Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles on Sunday is so perplexing.

The Chiefs handed Charles the ball just five times on Sunday, with which he gained five yards, in a loss to AFC West rival Oakland.

Charles has shown signs this season of returning to the form he showed in 2010 and 2011 — where he ran for 1,120 and 1,467 yards respectively — and is still a pretty reliable offensive weapon. So why would an offense spearheaded by quarterbacks Brady Quinn and Matt Cassel get away from giving the ball to Charles?

That’s a good question, an inquiry that came with a pretty lackluster answer.

“Now, that I’m not exactly sure either,” Crennel said after the game, according to Dave Skretta, via ProFootballTalk.com.

Again, Crennel is a defensive specialist, but you would think that the head coach would be able to step in and fix this kind of a problem, assuming he even realizes what’s going on.
