'Steven Jackson Rumors Are Rumors,' Jeff Fisher Claims in Attempt to End Trade SpeculationSteven Jackson
might change teams in the offseason, but for now, it looks like he’ll remain a member of the St. Louis Rams.

Jackson’s name has repeatedly been tossed around in trade rumors recently, however, Rams coach Jeff Fisher tried to put to rest the speculation on Tuesday.

“The Steven Jackson rumors are rumors,” Fisher told reporters. “He’s our running back and we’re not calling around, nor are we getting calls for that matter. Put that to rest.”

The rumors may just be rumors, as Fisher states, but they’re certainly understandable. A number of teams would love to add a running back, and the stars seem to be aligning for an offseason departure for Jackson, who will turn 30 next July.

Not only will Jackson turn 30 — a dreaded age for running backs — before next season, but rookie Daryl Richardson has emerged to the point where he’s essentially splitting carries with the three-time Pro Bowler. Then, when you factor in the Rams’ reported agreement with Jackson to let the running back void the final year of his contract after this season, it’s realistic to think St. Louis might consider trading the ninth-year pro. Or so we thought.

For now, it looks like Jackson will continue to don blue and gold.
