Kathryn Tappen serves as NESN’s Boston Bruins studio host and as a weekend anchor and reporter for "SportsDesk," NESN’s popular sports news, information and highlights program. The half-hour sports newscast airs six hours daily. The morning edition runs from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from noon to 1 p.m. The evening edition airs live every night at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. or immediately following NESN’s live coverage of the Red Sox and Bruins. As NESN’s Bruins studio host, Tappen anchors the network’s Bruins pre-game show, "WB Mason’s Bruins Face-Off Live"; intermission coverage; and the post-game show, "Granite City Electric Bruins Overtime Live."
Tappen comes to NESN from WJAR-10 in Providence, R.I., where she spent a year and a half covering New England sports as the weekend anchor and weekday sports reporter for the NBC affiliate and won an AP award for her sports feature “Swim Meet." She has also served as a sideline reporter for NBC Universal Sports and hosted a nightly special covering the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
The Rutgers University graduate began her career at CSTV in 2003 where she hosted a variety of programs, including "The One College Sports Show," "At the Buzzer" and "24/7." An Academic All-American while at Rutgers, Tappen was a member of the cross country and track teams and is a former record holder in the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase.
