Report: Steve Smith Drawing Interest From NFL Teams as Trade Deadline ApproachesPredictably, the Carolina Panthers are receiving calls about many of their veteran players as the trade deadline looms.

Steve Smith is the latest name that teams are inquiring about according to Fox's Jay Glazer. The Panthers are 1-6 on the season and had already been receiving calls about DeAngelo Williams earlier in the week. Carolina fired their general manager early this season, so any trades would have to go through interim GM Brandon Beane, owner Jerry Richardson and head coach Ron Rivera.

Smith is far and away the Panthers' No. 1 receiving threat, with 35 receptions and 589 yards on the season. No. 2 receiver Brandon LaFell hasn't emerged as many predicted going into the 2012 season, as he's second on the team with 367 yards on 20 receptions with three touchdowns.
